Random

I counted how far it is from my building to “campus” [Washington Square]. My building is 12 blocks south and four blocks east of Washington Square. Took me about 20 minutes the other day.

I made a couple friends in other majors yesterday, but we didn’t exchange numbers and I didn’t see them today. Sad day. But the journalism majors got to know each other today; we all walked to Cooper Square together and talked while we were waiting to meet with our department adviser and then CAS adviser.

Our department adviser is a little odd, I think. Kind of a hippie. We’ll see how that goes. Our CAS adviser is really cool and helpful. He talks differently- not in a bad way or anything, just really pronounced I think. Like the way he says journalism: JOR-no-lism. And his mouth gets really big, and he nods emphatically.

Oh, the president used a word I don’t know in his opening speech: ecumenical. I think that’s how you spell it, and spellcheck isn’t telling me it’s wrong, so there you go. Hang on, I’ll look it up…

worldwide or general in extent, influence, or application.”

Yeah, that doesn’t help me remember what context he was using it in, or what his remarks were. Bummer.

I had to step on a bug in my apartment the other day! Not cool! Margo said the lower floors get bug problems, not so much the uppers, so I better not see any of his friends.

Oh, Kristi, guess what? There’s a Five Guys Burgers and Fries chain in New York, too! So now I’ll get to try it. I think there’s one that might deliver to my building, too. Haha lucky me.

I’m getting a little tired of weird guys on the street hitting on me, instead of good-looking NYU guys. That better change soon.

Oh, I think this was my favorite thing this week: sitting in one of my transfer meetings, I told the guy next to me that I was from California and he asked me if I’d ever seen snow. Legitimate question I guess, but still really funny.

Oh I forgot to say, though I’m sure Rebecca didn’t, that when we went to see the Empire State Building, it was lit up yellow for the U.S. Open! How cool is that? But you know what’s even cooler? Mary said they light it up purple for NYU graduation!! Oh my goodness, best thing ever- all of New York will be thinking about us that night! Haha OK not really, but that is the coolest thing I’ve heard since I’ve been here. And apparently our graduation is held in Yankee Stadium. Way awesome, too, huh? I know! ‘Cause it’s NYU. It’s amazing. I LOVE IT HERE.
