More classes...

Tuesday: foundations, which is journalism. The professor seems pretty full of himself, and thinks his jokes are really funny. And of course the class is filled with freshmen, so they laugh at the not-funny jokes. Hopefully it will get better. Then I had world cultures: Chinese and Japanese traditions. One of my new friends/colleagues from WSN is in that class too, so I have a friend! Had a hard time understanding that professor, but he seems pretty cool, so it should be good.

Also bought shoes this day I think. Some pretty intense ones. They’re made by an outdoors company, so they’re for serious, long-term use with the hiking and whatnot. They’re working out so far; just sort of heavier than what I’m used to [with the chucks and all].

Did not have to work at WSN, even though Tuesdays will be my normal shift, because they were not on production for Wednesday. Next week starts the regular schedule. So I think that’s it…

Wednesday I went to a stupid 8 a.m. recitation, which was not going to work for me. At all. Then I missed my other two classes to go to a work-study orientation for America Reads. It’s supposed to be helping kids in public schools learn how to read, and other types of academic learning. But reading is the only important one, haha.

Then I went home and took a nap! Yesss! Then showered and went to institute.

We just had pizza [Papa John’s- I can’t escape it!] and visited. Brother Stephenson came to meet us all, but I already knew everyone except one guy from church Sunday. It was cool, though. Found out our LDSSA president, the one from North Carolina, is getting married in about nine months. Congrats to her.

Then — OK and this is the best part — we’re just chillin’ at institute, with an awesome view of Washington Square park and the Empire State Building as it starts to get lit up for the night! How much does my school rock? A LOT!! I love New York. I seriously don’t know how I’m going to go back and live in California.

So then I bought a book I needed to read by today’s class and took the subway home, ‘cause I was not in the mood to walk. And then I didn’t read it. Last night, anyway. I did this morning. Last night I talked to Jeff! Woot, woot. And then Evan! It was good to hear from both of them. And somebody needs to come visit me soon. Anybody. OK, not anybody, but you know what I mean.

Then today were the Tuesday/Thursday classes again. Another 8 a.m. recitation; this time for foundations. This one went well; it’s only girls and we had a good discussion. I made a friend on the way out; we walked to Downstein and then sat together in lecture. She seems cool. We both agreed that boys were loud and obnoxious [my words] and stinky and smelly [her words].

She told me at lecture that she had taken a nap in between classes, and I’ve already been thinking that that would be a smart move: make friends with someone who lives right near campus, and crash there in between classes. Because I really, really, really like naps. So I think that’s my mission for now. Until it is accomplished.

Um…oh! My world culture professor is going to let me change my Wednesday 8 a.m. recitation for one of the afternoon ones. Yay! I knew he was cool.

I also had my linguistics recitation today, and that might be harder for me to grasp than I thought. The TA seems helpful, though, so it might not be too bad. And it’s a small group, so that should be fun.

Stopped by club fest on the way home [almost forgot about it]. It was in the bottom level of Coles, one of our gyms. There were seriously about 300 tables there. It was basically chaos, so I only stayed about 15 minutes. It was a pretty cool sight from the top level, though; to look down on it all.

Then Margo and I got ice cream tonight at Carvel, which was combined with a Subway [the sandwich place]. It started sprinkling on the way home! It was really windy and chilly today. Fall is coming!

So what is a recitation? Like a mandatory discussion?

that's exactly what it is. so basically the class meets three times a week instead of just two
