So yesterday we did a whole bunch of other stuff, too. We found my institute/church building. It’s on 15th street, west of 10th avenue. It’s within walking distance of main campus; I don’t know about from my apartment.
We saw the Manhattan temple, which does not stand out in the rest of New York architecture, unless you happen to notice the angel Moroni sitting at the top. There is no visitor’s center, for those wondering, but we did meet some helpful missionaries and a couple of temple workers I think…
Anyway, we also went to The London, for Don Sonora. We almost missed it, because the sign was so inconspicuous, and the lettering was so thin.
We went to the UN building, but that was so lame! They take all the flags down at 4 p.m. because “that’s the rule”, as some Russian security guard told us. So I’ll have to go back another day.
We found the Stand restaurant, for Mom, and had a toasted marshmallow milkshake! So yummy! We ordered another one cause it was so good! I think that’s my favorite spot in New York so far, haha.
Also, I think one of my life goals that I didn’t realize I had was fulfilled yesterday. I embarrassed Rebecca! To get from my apartment to campus includes passing a Hollister store, which we all know is a cult. And now they’ve got their members [who, mind you, are supposed to be WORKING! They are getting paid for this…] standing around in bathing suits! Two guys in swim trunks out front, and a girl in a bikini inside. That’s what we saw the first time we passed. The second time we passed, they had on jeans and flannel shirts I think. [Go figure on that marketing scheme!] So I sort of shouted over the crowd, “Thank you for wearing clothes!”
And Rebecca said that was embarrassing. I don’t know why.
The last thing we did was go to K-Mart so I could finally get the stuff I needed, like another pillow, laundry detergent, wrapping paper to line my drawers. I had to wait because they had a hold on a check from my grandma, but my dad went in and fixed it for me. Thanks Dad!
So we got everything [well, almost everything] and went home after one long and busy day. Neither of my roommates was home last night, so it was just me and Becca. Twin beds are not very comfortable with two people.
Today was some school stuff, tomorrow is more school stuff, and I have to go get my laundry out of the dryer. So more later...
