I went to see “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. That was the first time I’d ever watched an entire show, and it got to be live! That was pretty cool. There’s a girl in my ward who’s sort of my hero who works there as a production assistant I think, but she wasn’t there Monday.
Before the show, Jon Stewart comes out and answers a few questions from the audience. A girl from ours chose to open with: If you were a sandwich, what kind would you be? Stewart took the question way too seriously, he thought: it’s gotta be on a roll, with some turkey and roast beef, sliced thin — not too heavy. Put some cheese, a little lettuce, a little tomato, slice of pickle, toast it. Add some oil and vinegar. The closing question was who is his favorite president, because the guest was Jimmy Carter, to talk about his new book “White House Diary.” He’s a very cute old man. But Stewart chose Lincoln, and poked fun at the audience member when the show opened. But then when it was over, Stewart admitted he just wanted to hug Carter.
I went with a friend’s brother who was in town on his way to Ireland. We had to wait outside for a couple hours, but it was fine because the conversation was good. He is a surprising, impressive, interesting, smart and personable guy. And I’d only known him for 48 hours.
After the show we went to Gray’s Papaya and then Insomnia Cookies, both delicious. But I only partially remembered where I was going, so we had to wander around the general vicinity for a bit until I figured it out. I felt way dumb.
We took our cookies to Washington Square Park to eat and see the arch and watch the fountain. Then we decided to play in the fountain [it’s dark and getting late for that, but we were having an adventure, I guess]. And by play, I mean put our feet in and walk around a little bit. Because it was freezing. My toes didn’t recover for like 10 minutes.
It was a fun time. He wanted to impart these lessons, which came up in three different conversations: be bold in your booty calls, be bold in your international travel, and be bold in your adventures.
I’m workin’ on it.
