Chocolate tour

One of my new roommates conducts a chocolate tour every fall and this year that day was today. Too bad the weather was TERRIBLE. No joke. It was rain-snowing all day and very cold. The sidewalks got all slushy. But. The chocolate was delicious. But I can see why she only does it once a year.

I didn’t get anything here, but I should have. One of my new roomies told me their malt balls were delicious. One of the other new roomies told me their hot chocolate was supposed to be delicious. I will have to go back. Their décor was very fall-centric. The colors and displays are fall-ish all year round, which could be fun.

Kee’s Chocolates
Bite-sized delights that are truly delicious. I tried a crème brulee (not as good as the few others told me), passion fruit (WAY strong, but fruity and refreshing), tiramisu (cocoa dusting was a little much, but good blend of flavors and hint of coffee at the end), and Thompson, which was a truffle with a thin layer of whipped cream inside as well (this was good, not too rich). Apparently Kee is a little Asian lady who hand makes all the chocolates daily. We waved to her as she was working in the other side of the shop as we left.

This place is pretty expensive, but still worth it. We all got hot chocolate here and it was fantastic. It was just about the size of an espresso cup, but it was so rich and creamy that it was plenty. I got milk chocolate with hazelnut. I also bought a little square with a sugar screen of legs on it, like from “A Christmas Story.” The flavor is pineapple and I haven’t tried it yet.

Vosges
This place describes itself as haut chocolat and it definitely was. Deep purple walls with a Keats poem painted behind the counter and expensive chocolate products in abundance. They have tons of different combinations of chocolate and other ingredients. I bought a bacon and chocolate bar, which tastes good because it’s not too bacon-y. And a Day of the Dead skull lollipop that’s just milk chocolate and pink Himalayan salt. They also had samples of their Barcelona chocolate, which is milk chocolate with hickory smoked almonds and sea salt that was also delicious.
